I love our faculty meetings! The meetings have a point and are to the point, yet always leave me thinking about ways to make learning more productive. Of late, faculty conversations are centered around power standards. It’s a topic that we’ve been pondering in Professional Learning Communities, English Language Arts division meetings and in our faculty meetings.
In one of our first meetings, faculty divided into groups and reviewed three articles. Then, each small group created a definition of “power standard” and entered them on Padlet. Padlet is a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic. It works like an online sheet of paper where people can put any content (e.g. images, videos, documents, text) anywhere on the page, together with anyone, from any device. It’s a quick way to gather and share information.

Research, writing and technology can be used in so many different ways to quickly communicate in our fast paced world. I’m anxious to see where this conversation will lead our community of teachers.
